The CZ 550 FS features a classic Bavarian-style Mannlicher stock, steel muzzle cap and a 3-position safety. This safety is unique in the CZ line to the FS and Carbine - Kevlar models. It locks the bolt and is on 'safe' when fully to the rear, remains on 'safe' with the bolt unlocked for unloading in the mid position and is ready to fire with the bolt unlocked in the forward position.
While the aesthetics of this model remind us of rifles from times gone by, with its short 20.6" barrel, fast handling stock and iron sights, it is even today perhaps the most appropriate configuration for quick shots required when hunting in dense cover.

This was my second safari to Tanzania. My first ended with a beautiful Rungwa lion taken with my CZ 550 .375 H&H. This hunt, in the Selous, began with a wonderful tusker on day one, using my CZ 550 in .416 Rigby. Both rifles have taken multiple game including cape buffalo, crocodile, sable, hippo and other plains game. I love Africa, and I love my CZ's. My favorites of all my many rifles.
First day of the 2011 rifle season, this beautiful Texas hill country 8 point was taken with my CZ 550FS, .308 using a 130gr Barnes TSX.
i own a full spectrum of czs. i discovered czs about nine yrs ago and wouldnt shoot much of anything else. they are extremely accurate and will out shoot about any thing any of my buddies have. i have the following: cz 452 lux- 22 rimfire cz 452 lux- 22 mag cz 527 american- 223 cz 527 carbine-7.62x39 cz 550 varmit-308 cz 550 fs-9.3x62 all of these weapons have taken game and have fed me and my family for years now. THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING WEAPON!!!!
I own a 6.5X55SE and have always said that people who shoot game at 400+ yards were more than not telling stories. Well I'm going to have to apolize to some people I know! I have never tried to shoot at a target over about 250 yards until today. I just didn't think I would be able to hit the center of the target. Today I shot 550 yards for fun and hit the target dead center 5 times in a row. I admit the wind had dropped off, My 550 FS preformed like a champ. P.S I was using my iron sights. What a great feeling! I have had the Gun for about 11 yrs and I guess I will not be so worried about missing with my scope at the longer distances. GOOD Gun!!!!!
I have always loved the lines of Mannlicher-Schönauer carbine, and the 550 FS reminds me of that great rifle. I purchased one in 2006, and love shooting it. I have taken many deer with it, hunting out of a blind in northern Minnesota where shots are rarely beyond 100 meters. I got a .270 Win, and kind of wish I got the 6.5 Swede instead, which would fit this style of rifle better.
